There are many types of metabolic cages developed for metabolic studies of experimental animals. Most of them are constructed from plastic, glass or a combination of plastic, glass, and metal screen with the primary function of urine-feces separation. Many of the cages available have several disadvantages as more number of parts, expensive construction, lack of versatility, inadequate space for the animal and incomplete separation of urine and feces. Orchid Scientific has developed new type of metabolic cage RMC 03 which eliminates all these disadvantages.
Orchids metabolic cage offer better separation efficiency of urine and feces assuring maximum purity of samples.
Components below the cage floor like collection tubes are removable without disturbing animals allowing tests to be conducted over a prolonged period of time without interruptions.

Animal waste is directed through a collection funnel and onto a linear diffuser guide. The diffuser guide allows solid matter to travel down the top ridges of a 50% incline, passing over a urine port, and into a fecal collection vessel. Liquid waste flows along grooves down the inclined diffuser guide, passing through the urine port, and into a urine collection vessel. A urine deflector prevents excess urine from splashing and contaminating fecal specimen. Separate urine and feces samples are collected in two separate tubes.

Mice & Rat Restrainer
Broom Style (Tail Access Type):
Broom Restrainers provide fast and easy animal insertion. The cylindrical design of these restrainers solves the problem of the rodents turning once they are introduced into the Restrainer. One side of restrainer is fixed with transparent tail piece (perspex plate) having a slot for tail while the other side fitted with a Head piece (bush) having a smooth conical shape from inside for positioning the head of rodent. Head piece can be adjusted according to size of animal and tightened using the black colour knob.

Flat Bottom Restrainer (Head and Tail Adjustable Type):
Flat bottom restrainers are manufactured from perspex cylinders mounted on a flat black perspex base. All the models have free access through both extremes, by opening the respective tilting door that is fixed by a screw at the upper part of the restrainer.
Animals can be immobilised by sliding the doors along the restrainer. A slot in the base of the door allows for the whole tail to be available for the pulse transducer and cuff installation, the i.v. drug administration or the blood extraction.
The easy operation of the doors and its disposition on the extremes of the restrainer makes the manipulation of the animal convenient and avoids the animal to be dragged backwards, protecting it from injuries in the feet.

Fully Adjustable Acrylic Rabbit Restrainer:
This restrainer is designed for use in two ways: In style 1, restrainer can be used with the help of curved back acrylic plate. This curved plate has a slider at bottom which can slide in the bottom sliders on restrainers according to animal size. In style 1, both height and length are adjusted using only one plate. In style 2, restrainer, height and length both can be adjusted using two plates. One plate as a cylindrical plate for height adjustment and second plate for length adjustment. Neck can be adjusted by sliding the front top plate and fixing it in the comfortable position neck slot. The floor of restrainer is specially made rough to avoid skidding.

RABBIT RESTRAINER (STAINLESS STEEL):
These restrainers are made of stainless steel 304. The adjustable neck portion is made of polished Bakelite or teakwood material.
The length can be adjusted by moving the S.S. plates and then tightening by using wing nuts. The neck can be fixed by opening the top S.S. plate by releasing the lock and then adjusting the height of upper wooden block and then again locking the S.S. clamp.
